86 Convertible - Under-hood Fuse

I recently got myself into a no-cycle condition with the top on my 86 convertible and based on some of the contact cleaning, I am thinking the culprit is the fuse under the hood.
Now my question is, it appears that the fuse I have for my top is not a traditional type fuse (I'm assuming this arrangement was a first year only item). From my googling it looks like it is a "Bosch Type" fuse, and it sits inside a coupler which I believe is intended to lock the fuse in by twisting it. It seems a little looser now than what I would presume it would have been in 1986...
What I'd like to do is splice in a generic in-line blade type fuse, as taping up what I have now looks rather troublesome. Anyone think this could cause problems? From what I recall I thought possibly the later convertibles had a more traditional fuse arrangement.
Thanks,
Nick
