8V ground cam issues

Hey all!
I'm helping a buddy build a new 8V Turbo engine. I gave him an old MSS reground turbo cam from an old rally car. James Fox's iirc.
I'm obviously never going to use it so I gave it to Andy.
Problem is, I can't remember how Jack L. took up the gap left from reducing the base circle of the cam. Lash caps? Lifter shims?
Anybody remember this old-school stuff anymore?
I haven't tore an 8-valve in 15 years!
Thanks!
John
