I hate to suggest this but
back in the days when Saab still sold new windshield gaskets we would salvage a good windshield by just removing the lock strip and cutting the old gasket with a utility knife. Doing that now, in light of the NLA status of OEM gaskets, would be a tragedy.
You should know that new windshields are still available and pretty cheap. They're not OEM Saab but they're fine. I always have bought them cash and carry and installed them myself but the glass shop price for installation is even really low. Hardly worth DIY. Maybe it's different in other places?
