I find that I need to use a wire wheel-type brush on a power drill to get the mating surface clean, as opposed to a hand-held wire brush.

I then mount the caliper and tighten the bolts only moderately. Using a dial caliper mounted to the strut or shock tower (magnetic base), I measure the run-out at a point about 1/2 inch from the edge of the disc. If it exceeds 3 thousandths of an inch, I unbolt the disc and rotate it 180 degrees, then check again. If still not good, I go after the mating surface with a brush again. I've had 4 thousandths of an inch wobble on the back calipers and haven't been able to feel it while driving, however.
