Just did the complete overall of all timing and balance components while replacing the head gasket...yes, all the balance components are separate, chain, tensioner, sprockets and guides. If yours is the B204 engine (like mine, at that mileage, it would be worth replacing both the timing and the balance shaft chains, tensioners, sprockets and the plastic guides. My exhaust balance shaft sprocket teeth had worn down to the ring! The guides were also really knackered! Do the work with patience and you will be well rewarded! Make sure that you set the timing marks on the balance shafts to align precisely and also the timing chain sprocket marks should be vertical to engine when you put on the new chain. To open the crankshaft bolt, you will need to remove the starter and insert a flat blade screw-driver in the flywheel cogs to lock the engine from turning when opening the bolt. Also, just remove the balance shafts to change the sprockets rather than trying in-situ, fit them in a vice to open the torx bolts. You will note both balance shafts are the same but the sprockets are different size, exhaust is bigger than the inlet. However, lots of tips to make it easier and do not hesitate to contact me if stuck! Send me your email and I will send you some photos I took while fixing mine.
