It is necessary to know the model year of your car. I am going to assume that it is a 1990 or newer. I am also assuming that the no-start is associated with the ac compressor. If these 2 assumptions are correct, your car is not driveable.

My best guess from the symptoms you described is that the compressor clutch has seized. At first, the motor would run with the compressor disconnected because the pulley that spins around the compressor clutch was still spinning. Now, the pulley has frozen also. The car won't start because turning the starter motor, eventually turns the crankshaft in the motor, which turns the big pulley at the end of the crankshaft, which turns the belt. The belt doesn't want to turn because the ac compressor won't turn.

You are going to need a new compressor. This will require replacing the receiver/drier and flushing the system. You might as well replace the expansion valve while you are at it. The site sponsors can give you a real deal on these parts. Even if the shop you use won't install a compressor they don't supply, they should still accept the drier and expansion valve. You may also need a new belt.

The dealer was wrong in advising you to just disconnect the compressor. It appears to be a crap shoot whether or not the pulley is going to freeze when the compressor shaft seizes. I was fine driving with it disconnected for a few days. KeithR got stuck like you are.

As for your central locking problem, this happens when one of the door lock actuators starts to fail. To figure out which one it is, you have to diconnect them one at a time. Buy a bunch of fuses first.

If you haven't already, it's time to buy a good set of tools and the Haynes manual. You should also read the Quasimotor site, if you have not already.
