in resolving this fuel-consumption issue. I'm having the same problem.

My '98 auto gets 19.6 mpg (US) consistently. Made no difference when I installed the K&N air filter. Then no diff when I installed the complete JT 3" exhaust. Still no diff when I replaced the plugs and gapped them to 0.90". And this is with a mix of "testing the beast", as well as smooth-cruising styles of driving. I basically drive around-town, to and from work on a parkway averaging 75 mph for 30 miles round-trip.

I've seen all the posts from others touting how good their gas mileage is, and quite frankly, I'm jealous. I have never gotten better than 19.6 mpg, and I've had the car for one full year now. I understand the auto will get less than a manual, but this amount seems way absurd.

BTW: my tail pipe is black and sooty on the inner wall as well. This was true with the stock system and now with the JT.

I will have to see what happens now with the Stage 3 BSR ECU I just installed. I've got a strange feeling I'm still gonna see 19.6!!!!!
