Hello,

Sad night for the saab (9k, CD turbo, 140K mi). I was wondering if anyone knows what would cause this problem. Here's the story, I was driving to work one morning about 2 months ago. The Battery light came on, lost power steering, and car began to smoke under hood. After inspection, I noticed the serp belt was frayed and broken. It was towed in for service and they "fixed" it by replacing a bracket. On the invoice it says, Idler Pulley Bracket Broken, Replaced Casting. They also put on a new belt. I go to my car tonight to turn it on, it comes on fine (usually it cranks over for a second or two, it never started up immediately like most other cars) and as I was backing out, lost power steering and the battery light came on. I opened the hood and saw the belt was completely off and there was a big chunk of medal just laying there, after touching it, i noticed it was completely broken off. It looked like it held the belt in place (maybe the idler pulley again). Does anyone know why it keeps doing this, and if I get it replaced if it will do it again? The service is getting to be rather expensive on this car.

Any additionaly info / input would be greatly appreciated.
