Clicking sound when turning, accelerating - this is the CV Joint. The fact that the CV Boot has been off to replace also points to this being the problem. Dirt can and does get into the CV joint when the boot cracks - depends on how long before it was noticed. The dirt can act as an abrasive mixed with the grease and ruin the joint over a fairly short period of time.

However as the repair was done by someone else it is just possible that not enough grease or the wrong type of grease (too light) was used to repack the CV joint and this would result in the moaning noise you mention, this was a subject of a service biuliten for brand new cars.

I recomend that you get the boot off the CV Joint, it comes right off the drive shaft by uncliping the circlip (snap ring) The Drive shaft will be unaffected by any of this and will not need replacing. Clean the CV joint thoroughly,it must be spotless and repack it with grease - 80 g (9000 Turbo 2.3 - 120 g ) Esso HF 125pNebula EP2 (Saab Special chassis grease) and cross your fingers - you may be lucky.
