I was driving the 94cs merrily around town doing some shopping. Approaching an intersection I suddenly noticed the car died and I could not start it. My first instinct was the alternator putting out less than 13 volts since summer begins finally drained the battery. My MP3 player going full blast most of the time certainly did not help the situation. So I called triple-A.

10 minutes after calling AAA, I opened the hood out of curiosity. To my surprise I found the serpentine belt was shredded. I wonder why I didn't feel steering sluggishness when it happened. The car was running on a weak battery is my explanation. So it is only seconds between when the belt went and car stopped.

Thinking about it in the tow truck going home, this belt was the same one when I bought the car. So it has gone through at least 67k miles. Even though I did replace the tensioner about 15k miles ago. It is about time the belt be replaced.

Went to Pepboy to get the belt. Installed it in an hour and half. This time I wasn't so lucky. The belt nearly clipped an electrical wire on the AC compressor. Later I found no there is no AC. Worse, while on tow, the car got bounced around so bad the one exhaust pipe was damaged. Now there is a leak in it.

I meant to replace the AC Compressor anyway because it developed a high pitch noise this past winter although it went away after the weather got warmer. Have a spare bought from ebay in my garage. My question is, is it okay to release R-134 to atmosphere? And who do I go to evacuate it and recharge afterwards?
