I was reluctant to admit this at first... but the car is at a saab dealership here in central florida.

This mechanic has access to every manual, every special tool, and even saabs technical phone line? (or something)

I trust him, and my service advisor, and probably will still remain friends with them long after this ordeal is over...

but to answer your question, i trust his diagnosis....

This car used to be an automatic... it is now a 5-speed...

During this conversion, which happened 3 years ago under different mechanics... we had to "trip" some circuit somewhere to "trick" the ecu into thinking that the car was in neutral, as the ecu would not let the car start and run properly if it thought it was in park, or drive. etc...

my mechanic now wasn't aware of this whole plight... so he perhaps forgot to trip this switch...

where is this switch, WHAT is this switch... and am i a fool for not just buying a 5-speed in the first place...
(i'll answer that one for you... YES!) ;)

I'm going to be printing all of this info out and brinnging it to him to discuss...

Feel free to write your responces directed towards my mechanic... tell him (in a nice way! ;) what to check...
