I posted the other day of my 94cs failing NJ State inspections with high NOx and other issues. Got a new passenger side headlight from Eeurope parts Friday and installed it Saturday morning. Also fixed the exhaust leak at the joint by unbolting the flanges to seal it with exhaust repair paste. I had the fore sight to use stainless steel bolts and nuts so that was easy enough to do.

The remaining thorny issue is high NOx. My plugs look okay. But I will replace them anyway. I also know one of the reasons of high NOx is high combustion temperature. The temperature gage is at mid point when cruising on highway speed. If I am stuck in traffic, the gage goes up close to 7/8, which is a liitle high I thought. I wonder in the inspection station where emissions is measured in the simulated crusing speed with a fan blowing at the engine engine temperature was high.

Will replacing the thermostat with one cooler makes NOx lower or will I be addressing the symptom rather than the cause? Your advice is appreciated.
