7/8 on the temp guage is very high. I may be overly paranoid about cooling, but if mine went that high I would be panicking. For the general well-being of the car, I would rreplace the fan switch. That is probably what is causing your high temperatures. These switches are pretty unreliable in my experience, and if you have a turbo, they tend to get melted by the heat.

Alternatively, try the electronic fan control that BobS makes. I've just put them on both of our 9000's, and it's great. Much better temperature stability than the stock setup, and you can adjust it to maintain just the right temp. My guage now stays just a hair below half all the time.

The other thing that crossed my mind when thinking about you problem is the coolant temp sensor. Have you tried Ari's suggestion of checking the voltage at the O2 sensor? If you find that the mixture is off, that could cause your NO2 problem, and the root cause of that could be a bad coolant temp sensor.

As I said before, these test results can have _everything_ to do with how the car is warmed up and at what RPM they test it, so you're right to wonder about that too.
