For all, no matter the ECU (I think). Standard setting is about 6 psi. Keep it at that level. You see, base boost is a protection for the engine. If there is a problem with the BPC or other things, it will resort to base boost. Base boost helps the engine avoid deadly preignition, or knock. Its 2:30 in the morning, so I hope this post comes out OK.
Heres a hypothetical situation: You set the base boost to 12 psi. Your BPC dies and sets you back to base boost. However, since the base boost is fairly high, there is a chance that knock could occur (not a great chance, but it COULD happen). Since the least amount of boost the turbo can mechanically put out is 12 psi, and the now-dead BPC can't dial it back, your engine could be damaged by the preignition. Therefore its safer to set the base boost lower (6psi is standard) and let the computer dial it up.
TO see what boost you are getting, just hook your calibrated gauge to the spot where the stock gauge connects. I don't know whether you'll get an accurate reading anywhere else, I could be wrong. Look for a vacuum line connected to a nipple on the back of the intake manifold, near the throttle body. The line will run back into the false bulkhead. You can either just unplug the stock gauge temporarily or hook up a Y connector to it for future use. This location will be easier to get to than anywhere else.
Now the real problems: 1) Why am I on Saabnet at 2:30 in the morning and 2)Will my run-on and choppy sentences actually make sense later on, or is it just a side effect of it being 2:30 am. Wow. Good luck.
