See the link to Maptun's stage 1. Reason for picking Maptun as an example, is they use static dyno for their horsepower figures. So the numbers are not bloated. Also they tend to err on the side of caution with their upgrades. Abbott on the other hand hasn't exactly gotten good reviews for their ECUs. They tend to just up the boost with the wastegate and run rich to keep from knocking. Hence the lower MPGs.
Another example of ECU tuning is our 9000. It used to be a 2.0 LPT (T25 turbo) with 150 hp. Now it's running ~1.3 bar max boost and has somewhere around 220-230 BHP. It has stock hardware except for air filter and has been running for ~100k miles since the upgrade. The turbo is the original unit with now >160k miles on it. The car also gets better MPGs than before when driving normally.
Yes the T25 is at it's limit over 250 BHP, but 245 BHP is not a problem with it on the 2.3L engine.
