This worked for me, but no guarantees.
Cut off the line just past the end of the barb, heat the line with a hair dryer, and slide in the new fitting. I had enough slack in the line to make this work.
I used the line-clamp part of a flaring tool to grip the line about 1 1/2" from the end. This gave me some leverage on the line when inseting the new fitting. Don't overheat the line, just get it warm.
