Hi Bill, I just posted re my own issue with a/c so sharing your pain:-)

Although I'm struggling with getting a/c cool enough, my ACC does seem to operate, ie set temperature and system does it's thing to maintain it well, so it doesn't have the same fault as yours.

My 1996 2.3 CS LPT also performs the same way when doing the calibration, which is different to how it performed on my K reg 2.3 CDE. ie on the CDE it would go through all the flap moving and the button lights would show it was trying each one from the bottom up and then go back down and THEN show the number of faults. Whereas my 1996 shows "0" immediately, then quickly shows "LOW" while it is still cycling through the buttons.

So, sounds like your ACC is working as it should re calibration test.

My non guru opinion is that the ACC believes the car is at a different temperature than it actually is. Although if the cabin temp sensor is dead (as it was in my recently departed 1995 FPT - in fact it was missing altogether) the ACC will have no reference point and will only have 2 settings, LOW or HIGH, as any temp setting you set the ACC to will have no way of knowing when it's reached that temp.

My spider sense is that your temp sensor is faulty, but not dead, so ACC is trying to do what it is told by adjusting the temperature up/down to the incorrect temp setting.

Maybe if you have a spare temp sensor to try, I'd give that a go?
