I don't know that they're so needy. It's just that most of us are driving them way past the stage that most folks are getting rid of their cars. My '91 9kt has 194K miles on it. It would be unrealistic to expect no problems.
To address your items:
Heater core - Typically a 120K mile item. Again, most peoeple don't keep a car more than that. Try replacing a heater core on a Volvo.
Serp belt - I don't know what you're doing, but I think it's a snap, as long as you have two people.
Engine vibration - I agree, although after I just did a top end overhaul, the engine is smoother than it's ever been.
Loc-tite on the driveshaft splines - yeah, a pain.
DI cassette - keep those spark plugs gapped right.
O-ring - That's a pain, too.
Oil pan gasket - Also a pain.
As far as the engine mounts, which someone else mentioned, try Quasi's modification. Mine look great after 74K miles. I had to replace the rubber dogbone bushing (also 74K miles on it), but the poly bushing on the other end of the dogbone is fine. Make sure you insert the rubber bushing correctly, so it absorbs vibrations correctly. Holes in the bushing oriented front to back, not side to side.
Overall, I like the way the car drives, and when I get my boost problem fixed, it will go like a rocket.
