More advice needed

I know this is a DIY help Board so I apologize for the nature of my posts the past week but I need all the input I can get.
I had my car ('93 Aero) in for a HG/ vlave job. When I got the car back, I drove it 30 miles home and noticed it was running funny again including a miss at idle (similar to what I had experienced before bringing the car in for the HG, see post from last week) So I called them the next day and because I had just got the car back, they agreed to tow it back to their shop to have a look.
Well I just got a call from them today and they are telling me that it needs a new turbo. They did say that they noticed it was "leaking some oil" when putting everything back together from the HG/valve job....
After having looked at it this week, he said that the turbo is blowing enough oil through the system to foul out the plugs and causing the car to stall. I am super bummed as I can't really afford another $1200 for used or $2k for new turbo (is what he quoted) I am also a bit skeptical that the HG and turbo were both on their way out at the same time.
Does all this sound right or am I getting strung along?
He said it would need to be replaced and couldn't be rebuilt. Before bringing the car in for the HG I noticed some overboost but figured that to be another dead BPC (last one I got worked fine but was used)
They have me between a rock and a hard place and I don't know what to do. How hard is it to swap a turbo? I have a decent amount of tools and might be able to use my neighbors car port but its not heated (Im in aspen... pretty chilly lately :P) Even then I would have to get the car back home somehow.. Ghaaa suck pill
