I am working/restoring a '97 9000 CSE with 90K. It's in good shape. I have a question about options with regard to AC compressors. Sanden, which is what the car currently has, is often referred to on this board as the "best". My experience with Sanden has not been good with either the unit on the C900 nor any of the past 9000s I have owned. They had either already failed or failed shortly after purchase (clutch bearing or seal). I was unable to find replacement parts for this manufacture. The Seiko, on the other hand, was easy to rebuild on the C900; the '94 Aero's compressor has not required rebuilding on my current 9000. I believe that this is a Seiko. What I have is OEM for the '94 Aero. It has soldiered on another 140K on top of the 160K it already had. My options: Sanden with an apparently new clutch bearing assembly or another Seiko/ '94 OEM. I have multiples of both including the dissimilar lines. Does the Sanden unit engage more smoothly, cool to a lower temperature than the Seiko? What, exactly makes it better. The Seiko is lighter, smaller physically and cools very well-occasionally I have condensation on the outside of my windscreen; however, I would hate to change out the Sanden if there is a compelling reason to keep it considering that it has a new clutch. Thanks!
