5th gear lockout????
Posted by 97Aero (more from 97Aero) on Thu, 16 Jun 2016 15:45:17
Took my 97 Aero into the shop for some new tires. Drove the car home last night and this morning I could not find reverse to save my life. Also noted that the only way to get the car into 5th great was to pull the reverse lockout. OK no biggie go thru the shift coupler alignment with a pin in the tranny in 4th gear and one in the shift assembly. Lined up perfectly so I think the coupler is OK. Started looking at the shifter assembly and sure the only way to get it into 5th is by pulling the reverse lockout. Still cannot get it into reverse though. Popped the retaining ring off that holds the shifter joint in place and this loosens up everything and I believe I was able to get it into reverse. Put everything back together and once again can't find 5th and no reverse. Stumped.
Any ideas gents?
