Broken exhaust studs Posted by skibumm100 [Email] (#3255) [Profile/Gallery] (more from skibumm100) on Tue, 21 Jun 2016 05:58:11 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have not got my 96 Aero on the road yet as I haven't had time to replace the broken exhaust studs. Two of them broke off when trying to remove them to get at the gasket. One long one broke off at the nut and the one behind the A/C compressor broke off at the block. I haven't decided if I'm gonna do these myself or take it to my indy. I don't have a lot of time and I can see this taking a bunch of it if things go south. I was looking online for SS studs and everything was pretty expensive. I don't really want to spring for ARP stuff. Instead I ordered a 3 ft piece of 18-8 SS threaded rod, brass nuts and SS belleville washers from McMaster-Carr. I'm thinking of stacking the bellevilles to make a spring washer stack to see if that keeps stud breakage to a minimum. I'm not sure if the heat will cause the bellevilles to lose their spring, but I figure it's worth a try.
