gearbox won't install to block Posted by inca99 [Email] (#1862) [Profile/Gallery] (more from inca99) on Fri, 5 Aug 2016 06:50:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Getting my gearbox mounted to the block is about a 10 on the frustration scale, in lieu of the whole 5spd conversion process. I've hit a little snag while trying to mate up the gearbox to the block. The intermediate drive shaft (output) section seems to be sliding in ok. No hoses or wires look to be getting in the way of the bell housing, but there's still about an inch gap all the way around that won't close up. I thought it might be the "input" driveshaft getting hung up on the clutch plate center, so I realigned that making sure it was dead on. Looking in the side "port hole" of the bell housing, it seems to be lining up fine.
One note is that this is a 2.0t that is being converted to a 5spd from a '91 2.3t. Now, I'm fairly certain there are no compatibility issues with the internals as the gearbox, clutch and flywheel are all from the 91 and those parts have bolted directly onto the 2.0 block without any problems.
Any thoughts on what might be keeping it from mounting would be a huge help right now!
