What to do with my 9000 Posted by TML [Email] (#2212) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TML) on Thu, 25 Jul 2019 09:59:30 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a '97 9000 Aero that has be sitting for a couple of years now, needing either a clutch pressure plate or slave cylinder to even be driveable. Beyond that, it has rust issues that need addressing, A/C not working and a variety of minor quibbles. I currently have no place to do the work, and not really the time either. Maybe in 5 years I could get around to it. I was thinking of parting it out, as it has some desirable upgrade parts in it. I don't really have the time or work space to do that, either, but if I don't care about the car itself then I can probably get a lot of pieces off it just out in the field.
The only thing holding me back is the realization that if I part out this car, I will never have the opportunity to own a 9000 again. I've been keeping my eye on ads across Canada, and I haven't seen one go up for sale in over a year. I haven't seen one on the road in a lot longer than that. And it's no longer legal to import one from anywhere, so whatever is already here is all we've got.
I really liked the car, but it would be a lot of work to get it in good shape again. And now that I have kids, I worry that it's not really a safe car by today's standards (no side airbags, and the airbags that were in the car are long gone).
