It's certainly possible for a new bearing to be bad, especially given the spotty quality of aftermarket parts these days. Have you done the usual wheel bearing test, listening while turning left and right for a change in the sound? Noises will telegraph all around a car though - a bad rear bearing might sound like it's coming from the front from inside the car! Do you have a capable Saab mechanic in your area? If the car is otherwise in good shape it would probably cost far less to have it repaired at a shop rather than buy another vehicle. (I'm also getting to the age where doing major repairs myself is a sporting proposition.)
