Ok, Here Goes.

If you apply Voltage to the Spade Terminal on the Solenoid of the Starter motor and have the body of the starter to ground, The Solenoid kicks in..
If you have the body grounded and supply a Positive Feed to the Solenoid Terminal where the Wire Comes Off And Goes Inside The Starter, The Motor Spins?
If This Is Correct, Then the Motor Part Of The Starter Is OK.
Now, If You Connect The Positve Wire To The BATTERY CONNECT On The Solenoid And Engage The Solenoid, Does The Starter Motor Spin? If It Doesn't, The Contact Plate In The Solenoid Is Not Making Contact Between The Contacts.

If you have 2 Spade Terminals on your Solenoid, One Is to ENGAGE the Solenoid. The other spade terminal is there to provide 12 Volts when the Solenoid is ENGAGED. You see this on Vehicles with a Ballast Resistor for the ignition coil. When cranking, The voltage drops and does not supply enough for the coil to operate. This 12 volt output overcomes this problem by supplying whatever voltage there is to the coil directly while cranking. Especially useful in winter. You need all the spark you can get..

Now, If your new starter motor is behaving the same as before. I would suggest that the following could be the problem.

1. Excessive Voltage Drop to the Solenoid from the ignition Switch. Easily fixed by fitting a relay so that you get full battery voltage at the Solenoid when starting.

2. You most certainly could have a defective starter motor. Was the starter motor you purchased "Brand New" or Rebuilt by the persons who sold you the Starter motor. If it was rebuilt by someone other than Bosch. Chances are that the Solenoid might not have been rebuilt along with the rest of the Starter Motor. I rebuild Bosch Starter Motoros All The Time and I Barely Have Any Problems After that. Kits Are Available to Rebuild The Solenoid.

3. Is your Drive Plate/ Flywheel Ring Gear Ok?

I hope this helps you out a little. I know all this as I am a Fully Qualified Auto Electrician (In Australia) with Heaps Of Years Service Under My Belt.
The Bosch Starter Motors are a Very Reliable Unit. It's only when somebody who Rebuilds one without knowing what they are doing, Thats when the Problems Start.

Good Luck.
