My wife loves her '88 9000T and won't get rid of it, even though it has body rust (Wisconsin winters). I don't think you can approach the quality of those cars for the same money. As for expensive repairs, I'd say no more expensive than most other makes, especially if you go to the dealer. Mine charges $75 an hour, but also charges this same amount for the other makes they service. If you can find a good independent Saab mechanic, so much the better. This bulletin board can save you big bucks, also, and discount parts are easily available over the internet.

The automatic transmissions on these cars tend to need replacement before 100K miles, but the standards last beyond what most cars last, anyway. Since they're Saabs, however, and the rest of the car lasts, many a Saab gets a new transmission at some time in its life. My only advice is that you make sure it's a color you like, since you'll probably end up keeping it longer than you originally planned. Good luck.
