If your rim hasn't deformed to the extent that it's losing air (slow-leaker or outright "hiss"), and can still be easily balanced without any perceptible wobble, I'd say your tire technician is probably right. I've had several bent rims over the years (Saab aluminum rims are notoriously soft, and no match for New England pot-holes), ranging from the hardly noticeable to the "won't hold air" state, but I never noticed any particular effect on the tires themselves, even after a year or two of riding on them. (I did wind up taking a nicely bent "SPG" rim to a shop a couple years ago and had it restored for about $75, which is another alternative if the aluminum hasn't "cracked" under the bend.) If your rims are one of the more common styles, you might also check at "Goldwing" (http://www.goldwingusedsaabparts.com), the Saabnet Classifieds or your local indy garage for a used replacement to give you a little peace of mind.
