You're referring to the little device under the black plastic cover by the expansion valve and dryer (with the two green/white wire connected to it), right?

I also have an Alfa Romeo 164S and my wife has a 164. The a/c on these two 164s and the saab 9k are almost identical in appearance behind the false firewall. The 164 is here for comparison - it has this little device, which appears identical to the one on the saab (down to the plastic cover - in fact I the fan housing, evaporator housing, drier and expansion valve all look the same). However, the numbers on the device your talking about on our saab are "Type K50-L5759", and below that, "88-48-2L". The identical-looking component on the 164 is "Type K50-L9419" and "90-20-1L". I think the second set of number on both may be some sort of date/mfg code, but the 1st numbers differ too - I wonder is there a significant difference between the too.

How far does the probe extend into the evaporator housing (that's part of it right)?

I live in Miss and saabs are scare almost as scarce as alfas (along with junk yards containing same). Do you know where I can get such a part?

What do you think has prevented the a/c compressor from working without the use of my added toggle switch (the big red relay?)?

I really appreciate your taking the time to help.

Thanks,
Rodney
