Perplexed - 5 spd fluid

Okay, I think I read every post on this, but I still can't figure out how to check/change my trans fluid. Car is a 86 9000t 5 spd manual, I don't have a trans dipstick at the top front of the trans, nor does my engine oil dipstick double for checking the trans fluid. There doesn't appear to be a drain plug (apparently not uncommon), the only fill plug I can find in located under the battery tray at the top rear end of the housing (17mm hexhead). On the front side (toward front of car) approx mid way up the trans there is another bolt which I would guess is a top level drain??. Since I can't figure out another way to do this, my intention is remove the latter mention bolt and fill form the top plug until fluid comes out the bottom (with the car level). If anyone has further suggestion/comments or this is just a really bad idea please let me know.
