I just installed an inexpensive SONY receiver from Crutchfield in my 1995 9K. The factory unit didn't work because the code plate was lost. Dealer said he could sell me another for $80 so I decided to go for a new receiver. Crutchfield sent a wiring harness that did not match up with my car. I called tech service, they told me to just follow the wires on into the dash and I would come to another set of plugs. NO WAY. I reached as far in as I could and the wires only went into the wiring harness. I ended up just hard wiring the new unit in and ignoring the wiring kit from Crutchfield. I had no trouble following the color codes with the help of my "Haynes" (English version) manual wiring diagram. But, when I turned it on, I got NO SOUND from the unit. A call to Crutchfeild Tech Support was no help. I had one yellow wire left over after wireing the speakers and that turned out to be the wire to power the amp under the passenger seat. With that conected to the blue and white wire from the new receiver I was in business. The metal bracket for the old radio just slides out (reach in through the ash tray opening to help push it out, bend it a little too) and the new bracket slides right in. Bend out the little tabs to secure it and the new radio slides in to it. Everything went together easily after I found out what the lone yellow wire was for, and I got great sound for a reasonable amount of money.
