I live in Europe..... and so, I will talk in kilometers ( sorry guys ! ).
I have bought a 92 9000 CDi-automatic with 150.000 kms on the counter. It has a "new" engine in it... a nearly
100.000 kms one. It has also a brand new automatic box ( don't know if it's the correct word for it ...). One owner before. Always parked
under a shelter.
I have had it for 200.000 belgian francs ( about 4500$ ). I have spent about 80.000 bf on it ( 1800$) : new tires,
wood on doors, new wheels garnitures....
For a good maintenance, I suggest you go every 3000 kms to a little check up ( here it costs me about 80$ ). At 10.000 kms, go for a big
maintenance work ( about 120$ here ).... so, you will be secure about all the fluids, the brakes, the computer, filters, etc... etc...
My opinion is : maybe you'll find that you will spend too much money to maintain your saab compare to other cars ( mostly americans, japanese or german ones ) but THINK !!
You will ride a luxury limo, top of the list in crash tests, that won't rust....... and when you'll still ride it, same year japanese will be gone long time, american ones will cost you a hell of bucks too and won't last that long and for germans, there's no way that BMW is able to live as long as a Saab and a Mercedes ( the only one, for my point of view, able to compete with Saab ) will have cost you a fortune to buy, to maintain and to ride.
Comfort, power, security, luxe and longevity............ for a reasonable amount of money a year. Go for it.
