When I saw this post I had to respond. Where I live (east coast, usa) it's really popular for young kids to modify japanese cars. So popular that its created a sort of backlash and rivalry between people that drive american, japanese and european. Personally I'm not a big fan of japanese cars (or at least sub-compacts), they make some nice ones and yeah theyre reliable but some people here seem to think anything made anywhere but tokyo is junk. I also think its funny to me how many people poke fun at american cars, and how ignorant this makes them sound. If you take europe as a whole they build nice cars, but break it down by country and each european country only builds a few good cars, so I dont think its fair to compair our country to the whole continent of europe. Plus american car companies own Jaguar, aston martin, saab, volvo, opel, mazda, etc. And a lot of "japanese" cars are actually designed or at least styled and built in america, take the toyota celica for example. So give us a little credit we do build at least 3 ferrari slayers the saleen s7, viper, corvette c4 and have a racing/engineering tradition on par with any other country.
