On page 19 in the article, it says "the EMS was the first sporting 99 variant, and it debuted in late 1972 as the 'Electronic Manual Special' which denoted its electronic fuel injection and exclusive four-speed manual gearbox. Then, the photo caption on the bottom of page 20 says basically that the EMS was the first 99 to use fuel injection.
My first 99 was a 1970 Triumph-motor version that was electronically fuel injected and had a four-speed. I also owned a 1971 99 with a carb and a 1972 99 with, I believe, a Saab b-engine that was also fuel injected (that was 30 years ago). Was my 1970 Triumph-motored 99 an unusual car or was the 1972 EMS not the first Saab with fuel injection? I'm sure it was not something someone had modified from a carb engine.
