Not likely the water pump Posted by Gary Stottler [Email] (#1463) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gary Stottler) on Tue, 9 Oct 2012 05:25:07 In Reply to: Re: Pulled the oil dipstick today, and quite milky brown.., Stephen, Mon, 8 Oct 2012 22:27:22 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Guys, it's very unlikely that the water pump can leak a significant amount of coolant into the oil - it has a dual seal arrangement with the water seal designed to let it leak to the outside of the block. So, both the water and oil seals would have to be shot (the oil seal badly) and the "weep hole" plugged up (and it's quite large). So, unfortunately you are probably looking at cylinder head or head gasket. Don't try to run the engine with that mix in the crankcase - the bearings will fail real fast if they get coolant in them.
I would hate to go through all the effort of putting another head on without having it pressure checked and checked for flatness. A turbo head really should get a valve job - high probability of worn seats and guides. Yes, you can swap camshafts, just do a valve adjustment afterwards.
Best,
Gary
