... SO I recently acquired a 76 gl up here in Edmonton Alberta Canada -
( only know of 4 other running 99's in all of Canada ) - I also have a 77 99 EMS that has served as my summer daily from May to September
any how - the 76 is in wonderful shape but was parked 15 years or so ago due to a bad fuel pump / I proceeded to clean all grounds, mock up a proxy fuel tank ( until I can get the old one cleaned ) I cleaned the fuel distributor and I put in some new injectors I had - fuel sprays great when I put new fuel pump in and jumpered the relay . . . .
So - after running premium fuel and Lucas fuel system cleaner through several times with the injectors spraying into separate containers - I figured it was time to turn it over. It cranked strong but did not start ( almost ) due to my enthusiasm FAR outweighing my ability, I thought I would see if the ignition coil from my running 77 would perhaps help -
so I swapped them onto the 76 and ... nothing:( - hmm - so I reasoned that perhaps I should test the distributor cap and coil from my 76 on my running 77 just to eliminate them as defective
I did that and the 77 fired right up - " great!" I thought - so after checking the points on the 76 I thought this has to be a ground some where? after much back and forth; still nothing / I proceded to put the coil and cap from the 77 back on the 77 and now it won't start either! - I put the 76 coil back on which was working and now that didnt work either! I subsequently tried 2 other spare coils and nothing
So I am not sure what I did wrong - I usually take a quick pic before I remove any wires but I didn't this time and second guessed myself ( hence my previous post )
I am sure I have the wires where they were ( green to coil from neg. post to distributor, Green/white to positive, other red from Distributor to positive, Black wire into other neg. terminal / any ideas what I may have messed up? the 77 turns over well but no spark since my switcheroo - I do not have or have used a multimeter but I may have to learn quick /
