Well you are correct, parts have gotten really scarce, probably a bit worse than the classic 900s. They are out there, but you have to really dig around for them. I've spent countless hours doing just that. Most fuel injection parts are NLA of course & are really beyond their useful lifespan after 40 years. Those plastic fuel lines are just plain scary, luckily mine are still flexible. Hopefully you are not in California or another state that requires emissions testing. Relays & electrical connectors, good luck. Interior/Exterior parts? eBay. Rust is the prime killer, a rust free car is a great find. The B engine ( later 99s & early 900s ) is pretty robust. Mine is a Frankenstein mess of parts under the hood, but it somehow keeps going. Occasional wires, vacuum hoses, fuel lines that need replacement. Ethanol is not kind to old rubber parts, which are basically impossible to find, so you make do with whatever looks close.
The other thing to keep in mind is that there are very few mechanics willing to do any work on them. Even so called SAAB mechanics cringe at the thought of working on 99s at this point & the classic car crowd doesn't recognize their existence. And it's not like there's a YouTube video out there to guide you through the repair. Get the the shop manual, consult the the experts on this board and spend some quality time with it.
