Loose oil pump shaft Posted by darrell [Email] (#2525) [Profile/Gallery] (more from darrell) on Wed, 15 Apr 2020 21:09:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a 75 EMS which was running fine before attempting an upgrade to a Pertronix. It was painful getting it all converted, but I got it all in there. When I started the engine, I notice the distribute cap was vibrating all over the place. It was idling quite high at like 1500 rpm, but seems to be running ok otherwise. I took it all apart & noticed the cap and rotor were obviously contacting each other due to the vibrating as there was dust all over. Also noticed the oil pump shaft is really loose & the pin that holds it doesn't look like a tight fit compared to the distributor gear pin.
Do these pins hold things tightly together or is the oil shaft just worn out beyond use? Any idea where I might locate the correct size pin? Any idea why it is suddenly so loose? It seemed to work fine before the conversion.
thanks in advance
