Turn signals working again

All turn signals stopped working. No hazards. Only a faint buzz now and then from the relay. So I dug in. Everything checked out, it was a mystery. My pile of relays, none were the flasher, so I ordered one. That wasn't a simple task. Fortunately, Porsches of the same vintage use the same relay:
Original is Hella TBB264DB (NLA)
Wehrle 54 201 102
Porsche 914-618-303-11 (fits 911, 912, 914)
URO URO-004230
I ended up with a Wehrle made in Italy that I got from Pelican Parts.
I swapped it in and the relay growled and the dash light flashed briefly. But no blinking.
On my 1976, the wiring at the relay has red/white pin 49 12V all the time. This comes from fuse 8 which is 8 amp. Pin 31 black is ground. Pin C is green white and goes to the dash bulb, and 49B green goes to the hazard and turn stalk. From either hazard or turn stalk, red white goes to right side, and blue/white goes to left side.
It was a long process of testing and grounding things along the way, but the final proof was when I ran a wire from the battery to pin 49 of the relay, and then ran jumpers from the other pins of the relay into the relay socket - everything worked perfectly. The issue was the red/white from fusebox to relay, even though it read 12 V and the connections were cleaned and looked great. At the fusebox, I clipped off the factory connection (that hurt) and crimped on a new female spade, even though it looked perfect and was clean. That did it.
