While all hatches are interchangeable, there is a subtle difference - the '80 and later stamping has an indented area between the taillights whereas the '79 and earlier was flat all the way across. I have a '78 99 3CK with the later part, I'm guessing that Saab just superseded the earlier stamping for service/parts. It's possible that someone put on a late panel from a C900, but I don't see an sign of the holes for the inner pair of taillights having been plugged up (the car has the standard "outer only" 99 taillights. Regardless, a later panel will fit fine and few people will notice the difference. I wasn't aware of it until recently after owning 99s for 40+ years.
Best,
Gary
