I don't think DougM will mind if I link to part of his invaluable collection of photos & scans. Below is a link to a scanned page of the factory manual which describes the procedure to check the fuel injector spray pattern.

Couple of tips: careful with the fuel lines on the injectors, try not to bend them too much as they can be brittle on older cars. Also, the "safety circuit plug" the manual refers to is an electrical plug on the side of the air sensor housing. Alternatively, you may also activate the fuel pump by simply jumping the fuel pump relay at the fusebox (jump terminals 30 & 87, as I recall). And make sure to use adequate containers to catch the fuel spray - I find clear juice bottles or jars work best since they let you see the spray pattern easily.
