This is going to sound like I'm trying to sell you something, but I'm not, really...

I'm pretty sure you could do it, but given that the LH2.2 and 2.4 turbo boxes are designed for a 9.5:1 compression ratio, I think that you may find the fuel mapping to be inefficient. You can compensate, but only in a fairly limited way , and only with certain year systems (85-87 let you adjust the base resistance of the air mass meter).

Also, the narrow band sensor used by the LH system only tells you whether you are running rich, or lean, but not really by how much.

If modern (or at least 80's era) injectors will fit a '74 D-jet rail and manifold, that would be the way to go for the mechanical side of things - given that the car already has a high pressure fuel pump, you could put it a modern programmable system, for example MegaSquirt - if configured to do so, you can use it to control both fuel and ignition, and it has a bunch of configuration options.

I am in the process of converting my car to use this system, but mine has a 16V engine, with the LH system already in place.

You may need to drill and tap the head for a coolant sensor, but you would for LH anyway - and the LH sensor can be used with Megasquirt, as can the LH system and fuel pump relays. If you want to read more about it, check out http://www.megasquirt.info (instructions for assembly and use) or http://www.msefi.com (user forums)

You can also use MS with a narrow band sensor, if you want to avoid the costs incurred with installing a wideband sensor.

An alternate option is to install the LH system, and have someone make a new chip which is designed for your car - although I would imagine the tuning would cost a fair bit on top of the components, and you wouldn't have timing control other than the vacuum advance/retart on the distributor.

I will end by saying that although I am doing it myself, I am nowhere near finished with it - I really just finished putting in the wideband system, and assembling the ECU itself - installation to the car and tuning are still to come, so I may live to regret my decision, but so far it has been fun, and I will now finish my run-on sentence.

regards,
Rowan
