Zeke,

My advice is to removed the H engine, set it aside, reweld the bulkhead(if it has been cut)and find yourself a B engine, or have patience, and find a a doner 99, and simply carry everything over.

A rebuilt B engine has lovely power, (if you are a speed freak, then you can even place in a B turbo. The advantage is that it fits!

While I'm sure that a 900 engine can be shoehorned in, it is so much work.

And your car is a pre 1975, so there is more to contend with as your brake booster, master cylinder is located higher up.

Ten years ago, I bought a clean 1978 GLe, and was trying to place in a 16valve turbo. While I did get far in the project...(converted to 16 valve wiring, cut firewall, modified exhaust) the thing was not easy! There was a half of inch clearance to the hood, a 1/4 inch clearance to the modified( cut down) lower crossmember. a 1/4 clearance between the alternator and the brake booster, and a 1/4 inch between the engine and the power steering rack. to make matters worse, when I drove the car, the engine would move and ahift, move and shift.. the result was a strong obtrusive knocking!

Eventually, I scrapped the car. I then bought another 1978 GLE, and was delighted.. ( great acceleration...ease of maintenance.) While I am not against modification, yet I think what makes owning different model Saabs, are the differences! I do not want to place in 900 leather seats in my 1974, or place on SPg wheels on my 1978.. Keep them original!

You typed that your friend still has the title. so the car is not yours? ( another reason not to place too much work in it)

Whatever you decide....good luck
