I just had the motor out of Olga the 67 96 and put in a new clutch. Now when she's idling there's this gawd awful squealing sound, even when she's freewheeling. I hate to think I screwed something up, but it wouldn't be the first time. When ya rev er up, the sound goes away or gets so high pitched only the dog can hear it. Any rate it seems like it's coming from the front of the engine. I figured it was the water pump or the alternator or just the belt, so I pulled off the belt and ran it for a few seconds to see what was making all the racket and it sounded the exact same. That leaves the balance shaft I believe. Is that right? And if it is, can I replace that bearing without tearing down the whole engine, Like pulling off the fan etc and opening up the front cover? Other than that everything's great, runs fine, causes headaches.
