Hi Gary, how about just posting the Mitsu alternator part#? Have you got it connected, which wire goes where, etc, and (since it sounds like you are still in the process as you post?, DOES IT WORK? As to your water pump pulley, I'm with Andy, this sounds odd. What is history, have you been running with this water pump? Do you have another pump to compare? The pulley can be moved, it is simply a press fit on the shaft and should never shift position once installed, it would be impractical to move it without removing the pump, and best done with a shop press and proper setup or you could break stuff; and since they are easily obtained and not expensive, why not just fit a new one? The shaft on my existing pump protrudes about 3/16" (eyeball guess) from the front of the pulley, if yours has an extra 1/2" of shaft protrusion it sounds to me like the pulley is misplaced; if not, ie if there is not enough shaft there to pull the pulley 1/2" forward, could be wrong pulley, wrong water pump (Capri?--dunno how similar it is), or I'm stumped.
