tappet noise 9-5 2011 Posted by solarez [Email] (#2362) [Profile/Gallery] (more from solarez) on Sun, 13 Oct 2019 13:54:50 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a 2011 9-5 turbo4 that used to run very quiet. It now has 78,000 miles. Last week, I changed the oil (oil cap says 5-30 so I used 5-30 Mobil 1)
and at the same time tried 89 octane gas (I usually run 92) filled the tank 7/8. So, two variables at the same time.
Then, I drove to Las Vegas (300 miles one way) and back and noticed a strong tappet noise but only when the engine was warmed up (not on cold or first 5 minutes)
Car still pulls very well.
Then I asked a few people who thought it could be timing or oil related. Oil sounded most logical seeing as how the manual spec'd 0-40wt. So we cahanged to 0-40wt and sond has dissipated when warm but still a little
We did not change the filter because there was a new filter in-place from only 4 days prior.
The car has not had any service since I bought it at 74,000. I don't know if the previous owner did a 60,000.
Should tappets be checked / . adjusted at 60,000 ?
Ay thoughts? recommendations?
