Its a tough call on whether or not the alarm control unit is disconnected because to bypass the immobilizer it takes a bit more than just pulling a fuse or unplugging the unit, plus I would guess the SID would show the 'service alarm system' or whatever it says when the unit goes faulty. I would definitely start with checking fuse #23 I believe. Does the other remote button open the hatch? When you bought the car did it come with the second remote? If not, when you get this whole thing sorted out I'd pop onto ebay and buy a second one for the quarter of a new one's cost and take a trip to the dealer and have it programmed. If the car was locked/alarm armed and you only have one remote and it decided to go bad your stuck big time. The alarm control unit would have to be replaced for the tune of $700 or so, or you'd at least have to spend $200 to have the immobilizer bypassed and have no remote locking. Its worth the investment.
