Not sure what yo are saying about higher wattage bulbs. Typically, you have 60/55W bulbs for the headlamps. You can get 100/65W which gives brighter light at the expense of more amps being used so the alternator works harder (and if you have a high power stereo amplifier as well, then the alternator can be overloaded). The downside is that the wiring and connectors are not sized for the higher wattage (amperage) and over time, they can deteriorate. Typical problem can be heavy corrosion in the connectors and this can reduce the current flow so the lights get dimmer.
