Thanks for the tips, TG and Dean. So far so good.

I have had it out on the highway with the cruise control set at 55mph, 60mph, 65mph, and 70mph and have felt no vibration or shimmy. (I know what that is like because this set of tires was not balanced correctly initially and that did produce a very noticeable shimmy between 60mph and 70mph until they corrected that.)
I have also tried taking my hands off the wheel for brief periods of time on level highway to see if there is any noticeable drift and that also seems to be as good as it ever was on my 9-3.
I'll pay attention the next time I take a curve (such as an offramp) to see if there is any problem there, but so far, I think its OK. The guy at the tire place said I was fortuate...it looked like the tire took the majority of the damage. Since I had bought the tires there only two months ago while they were having a sale, they were even nice enough to sell me the new tire at the same sale price, even though it was no longer on sale.
