I was in an accident today and am wondering what to do with my car now.

So here's how it all happened:

I was in the city stopped at a red light intersection with a pick-up truck with a HUGE trailer hitch sticking out of it in front of me and a city bus on my left and traffic on my right. As the light turned green the pick-up truck and the bus started to move through the intersection. Well, down the intersecting side street comes a city police car WITH OUT LIGHTS or SIRENS on and tries to get through HIS RED LIGHT onto our already green street. The bus slams its brakes and the cop kinda gets blocked by this pick-up truck that I'm a car-length behind. So without looking, this pick-up truck driver throws it into reverse and proceeds to put the aforementioned huge trailer hitch into my car at somewhere around 15 MPH. Great damage of my car insued and of course none to his. Then to make things worse, this cop DOESN'T STOP TO SEE THAT I'M OKAY, BUT INSTEAD PROCEEDS to TURN on his LIGHTS AND SIRENS!!! That's right-he RUNS HIS RED LIGHT and THEN, AND THEN, puts them on!

Well, I call the cops and say that one of their police officers have just caused an accident while responding to a call. They ask me if he can be put on the phone. I say, "well, no, he can't be actually because he just spend away." They're like, "did you get the unit number sir?" Of course I didn't-bad me.

So the guy that hit me is all apologetic and we get an officer to come out. The guy gives me all he's supposed to. So I think things are dandy. Then, the cop starts writing ME a TICKET FOR FOLLOWING TO CLOSELY! Well, luckily a witness that had stopped and waited with us said, "if you give that young man a ticket Imma gonna slap you upside the head!" Then the cop was like "Ma'am, were you involved in this accident?" And I tell him, "no, but she's an eye-witness." And she also recounted the part about the the cop not stopping before clearing an intersection and the man backing into me. So we get ready to leave and the cop again tells me that he should be giving me a ticket, but won't(but he wouldn't tell me why he didn't!) I asked him if there was anyway I could find out who that officer was that caused all of this. He said he'd call his supervisor and try to and did. But he said they couldn't do anything without a unit number. So I went away very pissed and knew it was bullshit because if they wanted to, they could just look in their log of calls and dispatches and figure out what officer was responding in the area at the time.

About my car now. There was a loud hissing noise coming from the area of the radiator/intercooler after the car was turned off. Is just a radiator leak that will be fixed by a new one? The hitch didn't hit my bumper, but my hood instead. God, that hood just buckled up about 7 inches into my field of vision through the windshield. The headlights on both side suprisingly shattered into 100 pieces, etc. The radiator has a quarter-sized dent in it, but otherwise appears fine and intact.

I drove it to my Saab Repair and Body Shop that was also an approved place for my insurance company. They said they'd give me an estimate on Monday. So from what I can tell, I'll need a new front left(possibly front right) fender, a new hood, new headlights, maybe a new bumper and the black styrofoam behind got put into chunks by the guy pulling out of my car after he hit it, maybe a new radiator, new hoses for it probably, maybe a new intercooler, and probably more than that as I couldn't open the hood to see what happened inside. So anybody have any ideas on how much that'll run and how long it'd take to get fixed at a place that's really busy and has a parts dept. on the premises? Also, my main concern is the car not being what it was before the accident. Should I be worried about this? Please, someone alay my fears! I'm really worried about that. I've only had this car for three months(CPO 1999 9-3S 5-speed) and was planning on keeping it for another 5/6. Will this car ever be the same? I mean, nothing was inflicted on the frame and probably not the engine or trans, so it should be pretty solid when it comes back, right?

Thank you for reading this; today was one of the worst days of my life so far, Andrew in DE.

P.S.-when I drove the car to the service center, the SID said "Front Light Failure." I thought it was kinda funny.
